In Loving Memory of Jacob “Pop” Gilmore
Jacob (Jake) Gilmore, age 82, passed away on February 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 29, 1935 in Springfield, Ohio. Jake was the son of Eleanore Valentine and Kirk Wheeler. He grew up at the Springfield Clark County Children’s Home and at the age of 12 he was adopted by Willard and Mattie Gilmore. Jake joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17 in 1952. During the mid-1950s he received orders to be stationed at Tachikawa, AFB in Japan. He met and married his wife Hatsue (Ishizuka) Gilmore “Sue” on June 11, 1956 in Tokyo, Japan. A year later, Jacob Gilmore Jr., was born. Jake Sr. and his family had orders to return state-side to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, where his second son Vincent Toshio was born. Shortly after the birth of his son, he received orders back to Japan where his third son Scott Masao was born and for a final time; he was ordered back to the U.S. and settled in Park Hill and later moved to Montbello – both communities in Denver, Colorado.
